Dave's Vision

Neighbourhoods are small and communities are large. The challenge is that what is good for the community is not always good for the neighbourhood and vice versa. Dave has the rare ability to see Ward 2 and the Town from both angles. By working closely with individual residents and businesses, he plans to unite their interests into a collaborative effort that benefits everybody. A fresh and informed perspective will play a crucial role in Newmarket's continued success. Change is necessary and welcome but it must be monitored properly. Dave has a strong mind for business, but his heart is in the home. He sees progress from two sides. This is what makes him Ward 2's ideal steward and Town Councillor.

Neighbourhood Focus:

It is imperative that Councillors focus on the issues that are relevant to the residents of their Ward. Each neighbourhood has specific issues and it is Dave's intent to establish a team of neighbourhood leaders who will work with him to ensure that these issues are addressed on an ongoing basis. Making Ward 2 a better place to live takes teamwork.

Community Vision:

Change is happening now. Newmarket's population will grow to 97,000 by 2031 and its economy is experiencing rapid and far-reaching transformations. The Town needs leaders not followers—leaders who will drive the community forward without overextending its resources. What we do today must have a positive impact on our short and long term goals.

Dave's Concerns

Let's Think Carefully About New Development

Too much too quickly can spell trouble. Newmarket has a number of large projects on the go such as VivaNext, the downtown park (CUSP) and renovations to the Old Town Hall. These are all great but they are also significant financial initiatives. We need to assess the real benefits and costs before making any more major project decisions. My approach is "if this then what" with all of my decisions. I will bring this approach to council.

Political Accountability

Question: if the economy is experiencing challenging times and residents of Newmarket are losing jobs, then why are we providing pay increases in the range of 5% to 20% to town staff and council? Actions must match the economic times. We need to minimize the tax impact on our residents and effectively manage the contributions that all taxpayers make each year. We must make decisions that are consistent with the economy that we live in. I will make certain that taxpayers' dollars are managed responsibly.
